All Employee Training Opportunity - Race: Are We So Different?

Join us on June 19 from 8AM – 10AM for a unique training opportunity on Race: Are We So Different? at the Putnam Museum in Davenport. You have the awesome chance to tour the Race exhibit and then to participate in a facilitated discussion regarding the exhibit and it’s topics.  From the Exhibit Information:

“The goal of the RACE project is to help individuals better understand the origins and manifestations of race and racism in everyday life by investigating race and human variation through the framework of science. The Race Exhibit explores three primary themes:

  • The science of human variation and where current scientific understanding is inconsistent with popular notions of race;
  • The history of the idea of race, with an emphasis on the role of science in shaping the concept of race; and
  • The contemporary experience of race and racism in the United States, and often the invisible ways race and racism have infiltrated laws, customs, and institutions.”

The HR staff had an opportunity to view the exhibit several weeks ago and we found the information powerful, thought provoking, and at times sobering. Our society is increasingly becoming more diverse – whether it’s working with people from different cultures, serving members of the public who represent different ethnicities, working with customers who are neuroatypical, or having co-workers from different background. It is important we keep all of this in mind as we work alongside our co-workers and as we assist and serve members of the public.

If you are interested in stretching your legs and your mind a little – we would love to have you join us in this session at the Putnam on June 19 from 8AM – 10AM.
