Future Land Use Map Meeting

Review of Future Land Use Map for Unincorporated Scott County

Notice of Three Public Meetings For Presentation of the Scott County Future Land Use Map and Opportunity for Public Comment

The Scott County Planning and Zoning Commission has scheduled a series of three public meetings to present the results of its review of the Scott County Future Land Use Map. The purpose of these public meetings is to provide opportunities for any interested Scott County residents and property owners to comment on this element of the Scott County Comprehensive Plan.

The agendas for these presentations will include information on the Scott County Comprehensive Plan and the role a Future Land Use Map plays in reviewing future rezoning or Special Use Permit applications. The Future Land Use map indicates areas in the County where development may occur, what types of development may occur in those areas, and in what areas no change in land use is anticipated. The Future Land Use Map is considered an element of the Comprehensive Plan and this draft map would be approved as an amendment to the Comprehensive Plan.

For the last year, the Planning Commission has held a series of work sessions to review the current Future Land Use Map in order to consider any revisions or changes that may be recommended. The first Future Land Use Map for rural Scott County was developed and approved in 1998. It was reviewed in 2007 and readopted in 2008 as an element of the adoption of the 2008 Scott County Comprehensive Plan.

Following this series of meetings the Planning Commission will hold a public hearing at one its regularly scheduled meetings before acting on a recommendation to the Board of Supervisors. The Board of Supervisors would also hold a Public Hearing on the Planning Commission’s recommendation before acting on the adoption of the Future Land Use Map. The final action on any amendment to the Comprehensive Plan will be made by the Scott County Board of Supervisors.

The schedule giving the dates, times and locations of the three public meetings is attached. Copies of the draft Future Land Use Map are available as 11” X 17” hard copies or PDF in electronic format. Please contact Scott County Planning and Development if you are interested in obtaining either version of the draft map. It is also available for download on the Scott County website.
