The Scott County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division (CID) investigates crimes committed in Scott County. CID conducts follow-up investigations on crimes reported through the Patrol Division. CID is comprised of a Lieutenant, Sergeant, and four deputies. Investigators assist in registering Sex Offenders and ensuring they are compliant with their respective guidelines. An Investigator is also assigned to the Iowa Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. Investigators are also assigned to the Metropolitan Enforcement Group (MEG) and the Gang Task Force. The Scott County Sheriff’s Office also has its own Special Operations Unit which focuses on narcotics investigations in Scott County.

The evidence technician for the Scott County Sheriff’s Office is responsible for all major crime scenes which occur in Scott County. This includes securing the crime scene, searching the crime scene, and identifying critical and supporting evidence within the crime scene.

Their duties also include but are not limited to photography, documentation, collection, packaging and processing of all crime scene evidence. The processing of physical evidence includes but is not limited to the disciplines of latent fingerprint development, footwear and tire marks, tool mark, biological (DNA) and trace (hairs, fibers and soil).

Scott County Sheriff’s Office Evidence Technicians work closely with many specialists in the forensic science community. These specialists include criminologists, forensic pathologist, forensic entomologist, blood pattern analysts, latent fingerprint examiners, biologists and engineers to name a few. After evidence has been collected and all scientific information has been compiled, the Scott County Sheriff's Office Evidence Technician works closely with the Scott County Attorney's Office and provides courtroom testimony in criminal trials.
