On Monday 11/30/15 the Scott County Conference Board unanimously approved to appoint City of Davenport Deputy Assessor Tom McManus as the new Scott County Assessor effective January 1, 2016 to replace Dale Denklau who has served in the position for the past 32 years and who will retire at the end of this year. Multiple candidates applied and were interviewed for the position.
Tom has been employed with the City of Davenport, Iowa Assessor’s Office for the past eleven years where he was promoted from a basic appraiser to the supervisor of commercial and industrial property assessments, and ultimately to a Deputy Assessor position in 2012. In that time he has learned to work under the directives of the Iowa Department of Revenue and to operate within the laws of the Iowa Code that govern the Assessor’s Offices in the State of Iowa. During his time with the Davenport Assessor’s Office he has completed many hours of job related training and continuing education classes. Tom has also participated in the litigation of many assessment appeals and has upheld millions of dollars of assessed values for the Board of Review and City of Davenport, Iowa.
Tom has military experience in the United States Navy serving on an aircraft carrier during the Persian Gulf War and Operation Desert Storm/Shield. He also has prior experience as Project Coordinator at multiple Quad City John Deere facilities in their IT departments supervising people and managing an office and experience in IT for the banking industry.
Tom truly enjoys working with the public daily. His hope is to bring his upbeat and positive attitude to the Scott County Assessor’s Office.
