Under general supervision of the Education Center Naturalist/Director, incumbent assists in providing services at the Wapsi River Environmental Education Center. Incumbent is responsible for providing educational, recreational, and resource management activities for the residents of Scott County and other visitors.
1. Utilize knowledge of recreation, and natural and cultural history to provide education and information related to: native plants and animals, including the Center's live animal displays, ecological principles, and natural resource-oriented/outdoor recreation activities.
2. Designs and maintains instructional programs, exhibits, and displays including but not limited to: evaluating learning needs, program goals, priorities and constraints, teaching/learning activities, learner characteristics, subject content, and support services.
3. Perform other job-related duties as necessary and/or assigned.
Standards for Initial Consideration
Completion of major coursework in environmental education, natural resources, outdoor recreation, or a related natural science.
Minimum of three (3) months of experience in development.and presentation of environmental education.
Must possess a valid driver's license and satisfactory driving record (verified)
Possess knowledge in ecology/outdoor recreation.
Ability to maintain effective working relationships with all levels of County employees, volunteers, and the public.
Ability to work under limited supervision.
Ability to comprehend, analyze, interpret, and explain conservation laws, principles and practices.
Ability to utilize effective oral, written, listening, and computer skills.
Ability to exemplify by his or her actions, the County's PRIDE philosophy.
