April 2 - 6 is National Public Health Week!

  • Agenda:
    • Welcome from Edward Rivers, Health Director at 12:00 p.m.

This National Public Health Week, join the Scott County Board of Health and SCHD staff in engaging all communities and all sectors in a conversation about the role each of us can play to put good health within everyone’s reach.  “We can change our future as a society if we all make healthy choices.  During National Public Health Week, we will be discussing how public health works to make everyone’s lives healthier, safer and better every day.  We hope you’ll join us in an effort to make the United States the healthiest nation,” said Edward Rivers, Director of the Scott County Health Department.

The public health progress being made in Scott County is a result of efforts in public health areas including communicable disease; emergency preparedness; inspections of food establishments, private water and septic systems; childhood lead poisoning prevention; community education; public health planning; coalition participation; correctional health; and much more.  In fiscal year 2017:

  • 8 public health preparedness drills held
  • 1,593 communicable disease were reported; 258 required investigation
  • 1,427 food service establishments were inspected
  • 1,104 people received STD/HIV services
  • 29,957 school immunization records were audited

Where we live, learn, work, worship and play impacts our health and our opportunity to ward off disease and injury. With that in mind, let’s partner across public and private spheres to create healthier people, families, communities and, eventually, the healthiest nation. We can do it — if we work together.
