Healthy Child Care Iowa - Child Care Nurse Consultant

The Child Care Nurse Consultant is a Registered Nurse that gives guidance and technical assistance to child care providers, preschools, families and communities regarding the health and safety of children.

The Child Care Nurse Consultant offers a wide range of assistance, from answering questions by phone, to training for child care staff. These services are provided in partnership with Healthy Child Care Iowa and Scott County Kids.

Services available:

  • Technical assistance through phone, e-mail or on-site visits for health and safety issues.
  • Consultation and staff training on health and safety standards and best practices.
  • Help child care providers with health and safety policy development.
  • Support health record keeping in child care, from medication to immunization records. 
  • Help child care providers find ways to increase physical activity and healthy eating for children in the child care setting.
  • Connect child care providers to community resources for children and families.
  • Perform health and safety assessments for providers involved in Iowa’s Quality Rating System (QRS).
