NEWS RELEASE - JUNE 14, 2018

The Scott County Conservation Board (SCCB) and the Iowa Department of Natural Resources (DNR), in coordination with FYRA Engineering, will host a public meeting on Thursday, June 28th at 5 p.m. at the Blue Grass Public Safety Building (606 Mayne Street in Bluegrass, IA) to discuss plans for improving water quality and recreational opportunities at West Lake Park in Scott County. Restoration activities planned for the park will be presented at the meeting, along with an opportunity for the public to express their comments and ask questions about the long term management and improvement plans.

Scott County Park Pool is proud to be an American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim Provider. The Learn-to-Swim program is unique compared to other learn to swim programs. Classes are offered for children ages 3 years old and up. Students progress through the levels at their own pace, mastering the skills in the one level before then advancing to the next.

Sessions are offered from June-July for Group Lessons, Private Lessons, Lifeguarding Certification and a WSI Instructor Class. Register online now or in person starting April 16th at the Scott County Park Entry Station.

Man and woman are a 2 person team and play 9 holes in an alternate shot format and scored using a modified stable ford scoring system. The event is flighted by the number of teams signed up each night. Men play from the white tees and women play from the red tees. Cost (subject to change) is $55.00 per couple and includes green fee, cart fee, prizes and a cookout after play. This is intended to be a fun night and beginners are encouraged to participate.

Join Dr. Mitchell, Director of the Monsignor Menke Observatory for a tour of the night sky. Call 563-333-6141 on the day of the event for a recorded message confirming whether the star party will take place or must be cancelled due to stormy weather. If the weather is merely cloudy, the star party will still take place with a tour of the observatory and an opportunity for questions and answers with local astronomers.

Come learn about he many wild edible plants in your neck of the woods.  We will focus on identifying plants, foraging basics, and preparing wild edibles.  We will take a hike outdoors to identify and harvest some of the summer wild edibles available during this time.   At the end of the program you will get to sample some wild flavors!
