The Scott County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the detention and extradition of prisoners wanted by other jurisdictions and to detain and transport prisoners held in other jurisdictions which are wanted by Scott County and other law enforcement agencies within Scott County.

If a subject is detained they have a choice to waive extradition to another state or fight extradition. If a subject fights extradition, the state that wants them, has to obtain a govenors warrant which forces their extradition. The time a subject spending fighting extradition is known as dead time and does not count towards any time they may face in the jurisdiction that wants them.

The Scott County Sheriff's Office has between 100 and 140 subjects being detained around the country at any one time. The Scott County Sheriff's Office has between 40 and 60 prisoners in our jail, at any one time, that have detainers on them from other jurisdictions.

Along with the detainers and extraditions, the Scott County Sheriff's Office is responsible for the keeping and entering, into the National Crime Information Center, warrants that are issued by the courts. There are over a thousand warrants that the Sheriff's office currently maintains.
