Community Oriented Policing and Problem Solving (COPPS)
Iowa Quad Cities Citizens Police Academy
Every February, in cooperation with other area Scott County police agencies and the Scott County Sheriff's Office, the Bettendorf Police Department sponsors a Citizens Police Academy. The Academy is an eight week program designed to give each participant a basic knowledge of how their law enforcement agencies operate.
Each participant has the opportunity to fire a police issued handgun, tour the Scott County Jail and ride along with an on-duty officer or deputy.
For more information, please contact Community Service Officer, Judy Welch at (563) 344-4046 or visit online http://www.bettendorf.org/police/
C.O.P.P.S. is a program that utilizes all available resources
to combat crime. Many public concerns about crime can be alleviated
by police interaction with residents.

Crime Prevention
Numerous crime prevention programs are offered to educate businesses,
schools, civic groups and community residents on effective ways
to help reduce the risk of crime. One popular program is the Neighborhood
Watch Program which allows citizens to work together for the protection
of their neighborhood. These programs are instructed by C.O.P.P.S.
deputies.
