911 is a three digit telephone number you can call 24 hours a day for police, fire and/or medical emergencies.
Why 911?
911 saves valuable time in an emergency. According to U.S. statistics, it can take up to 2 ½ minutes to find your phone book and another 30 seconds to locate the correct number. In an emergency, 3 minutes is a long time.
How Does 911 Work?
When you call 911 your call is received by a trained Public Safety Dispatcher who takes your information and then dispatches the appropriate police, fire and/or emergency medical response team serving your area.
How Do I Use 911?
Remain calm and speak clearly. Provide the Public Safety Dispatcher with the following information:
- The LOCATION of your incident.
- Your call back telephone number.
- WHAT is happening?
- Your name, address and telephone number.
