Marriage Application

Image of some wedding bells and ribbon.You may apply for a Marriage License at any County Recorder in Iowa as long as the ceremony is to be performed in Iowa. Marriage Applications are accepted in Scott County between the hours of 8:00 A.M. and 4:00 P.M.

To apply for a Marriage License:

In Scott County, the Marriage License is issued at the time of application. However, there is a three (3) day waiting period before the actual marriage may occur.

Once the Certificate of Marriage has been returned to the Recorder's office and placed on record, a certified copy will be mailed to the newlyweds.

Marriage Officiants and Magistrate Judges

In addition to the Scott County Magistrate Judges listed below, Iowa Code 595.10(2) authorizes persons ordained or designated as a leader of the person’s religious faith to perform marriage ceremonies.

From Iowa Code 595.10 Who may solemnize:

  1. A judge of the supreme court, court of appeals, or district court, including a district associate judge, associate juvenile judge, or a judicial magistrate, and including a senior judge as defined in section 602.9202, subsection 1.
  2. A person ordained or designated as a leader of the person's religious faith.

The following Magistrate Judges perform marriage ceremonies in Scott County. You are responsible for contacting them to make arrangements for the wedding service and associated fees.
