Promotional Ceremony

On Monday, March 6th, at 08:00, the Scott County Sheriff’s Office will hold a promotional ceremony at the Sheriff’s Office on second floor of the Scott County Courthouse.  Deputy Dan Furlong will be promoted to the rank of sergeant.

Biography:

Dan Furlong graduated from St. Ambrose University in 2003 with a B.A. in Criminal Justice.  Dan worked as a correctional officer with the Scott County Sheriff’s Office from 2004 until 2005 when he left the Sheriff’s Office and was hired by the Maquoketa, Iowa Police Department. He graduated from the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy in the spring of 2005.

In February 2008, Dan was hired back to the Scott County Sheriff’s Office for the position of deputy sheriff and in July 2010, started working within the Scott County Sheriff’s Office as part of the Special Operations Unit (SOU).

Dan has received extensive training during his law enforcement career including:  Basic Incident Command, National Incident Management, Iowa Multi-Jurisdictional Drug Task Force Training, Current Drug Trends and Diversion, Clandestine Laboratory Safety Certification, Street Level Interdiction, Highway Drug Investigations for Patrol, Emergency Services Training (SWAT), Advanced Vehicle Contraband Concealment, Basic Indoor Marijuana Grow Investigations, Tactical Field Interviewing, Illinois Drug Enforcement Officers Association Training,  Iowa Narcotics Officers Association Training, Financial Investigative Techniques, Basic Crime Scene Investigation, Medical Marijuana and DUI Enforcement, Mental Health Training, Gangs, Analyzing Juvenile Behavior, Juvenile Interrogation Techniques and Developing Rapport With Youth, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driving Enforcement (ARIDE), National Traffic Incident Management Responder, High in Plain Sight, Desert Snow Advanced Criminal and Terrorist Interdiction, Heroin and Opioid Summit, Introduction to Drug Endangered Children Training, Clandestine Laboratory Safety Certification and Armed Suspect Recognition and Firearm Seizures.

Dan is a trainer for Data Master DMT, a Field Training Officer, a Standardized Field Sobriety Testing Instructor, an Instructor for Nark II Progressive System of Drug Identification, and a Current Drug Trends/Investigation Instructor for the Iowa Law Enforcement Academy.
