4 Vehicle Accident on I-80

Update –May 10, 2016

The occupants of the 1995 Buick Century that were fatally injured on May 9th 2016 in the accident on Interstate-80, were identified as Angela Quinn (43YOA) and Aaron Quinn (47YOA) both of Albia Iowa.

The accident is still under investigation.

 

On May 9th, 2016 at 3:18pm Scott County Sheriff's Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle accident in the area of I-80 Westbound mile marker 304 involving 4 vehicles.

Scott County Sheriff's Office, LeClaire Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Department of Transportation, LeClaire Fire Department, Bettendorf Fire Department and Medic Ambulance all responded to the scene.

Sheriff's Office Accident Investigators indicate the following: A Chevy Express Van operated by Christopher Roger (27YOA) of Parkview, a Buick Century, a Chevy Equinox, operated by Amy Day (37YOA) of East Moline Il, a Ford F-550, operated by William Gernant (50YOA) of Cambridge Il , were all traveling west bound on I-80.

Due to road construction, vehicles on I-80 (west bound) were starting to merge to the right lane as they approached the construction area of mile marker 303. Witnesses state traffic was at a stand-still as vehicles merged to the right lane. Witnesses stated that Roger's van rear ended the Buick, then continued on and rear ended the Equinox causing it to strike the Ford F-550.

Gernant and Day were not injured in the accident. Roger's was transported to Genesis East Hospital where he was treated for non-life threatening injuries. The two occupants of the Buick were pronounced dead on the scene.

The names of the two occupants in the Buick are being held at this time until their families can be notified.

Roger's was cited for: Failure to Stop Within Assured Safe Distance.
