A collaboration between Bethany Children and Families, Edgertons Women’s Health Center and Scott County Health Department, the Know What to Say program focuses on teaching influential adults, such as parents and school staff members, about communicating effectively to youth about sex.
Know What to Say Program
A collaboration between Bethany Children and Families, Edgertons Women’s Health Center and Scott County Health Department, the Know What to Say program focuses on teaching influential adults, such as parents and school staff members, about communicating effectively to youth about sex.
Who
These services are provided under the Community Adolescent Pregnancy Prevention Grant. The grant serves a very specific population which includes:
- Parents and children in grades 6-12, who attend school in Bettendorf Community Schools, Davenport Community Schools, North Scott Community Schools, and Pleasant Valley Community Schools.
- Designated staff members employed by Bettendorf Community Schools, Davenport Community Schools, North Scott Community Schools, and Pleasant Valley Community Schools.
How
Know What to Say provides parent and school staff members with informational workshops/trainings designed to teach them how to help children/students postpone early sexual activity and avoid teen pregnancy and STDs.
Why
- To provide parents/school staff with the knowledge to communicate with their children/students about sex and its consequences
- To provide parents/staff with tools and techniques on how to effectively listen to their children/students.
- To increase parents/school staff members level of comfort in talking with their children/students about sex.
- To increase parents/school staffs’ likelihood of talking to children/students about sex.
