What to Expect

STD ProgramAt the intitial visit to the Scott County STD Clinic, a patient will be asked if they are a Scott County resident or an Iowa resident.

Scott County residents are eligible for free confidential testing and treatment of STDs, including HIV testing. Iowa residents who are not a Scott County resident are eligible for HIV testing only.

Clinic forms and instructions are provided by the Health Department receptionist. Upon completing the form, the patient will be given an identification number and remain seated in the waiting room.

When available, a clinic staff member and the patient meet in a private room to review the forms and assure completeness. The staff member will provide information about STD and HIV testing and prevention.

After the inteview, the patient will see a clinician for a physical exam. Depending on the exam, the patient may need lab work requiring blood, urine, or oral samples. If appropriate, the patient may be given the Hepaitis A and/or B vaccine. At the end of the visit, the patient will see the clinician for any preliminary test results and may be given treatment based on those results.
