Walnut Grove Pioneer Village : Keppy & Nagle General Store
The General Store derives its name from the fact that it was a store that carried all items of general need, in addition to groceries. They carried miscellaneous hardware items, paint, clothes, food for livestock, plus much more. They bought butter and eggs from the farmer which they resold, but also reshipped the items to Davenport.
It was a popular gathering place for customers to pick up on the local news. You would often find the locals playing a game of checkers.
The collections here are from Dan Nagle, whose father, James, had a store in Long Grove and also from Bud Keppy, whose father & grandfather had a store in Donahue. Hence the name Keppy & Nagle General Store in Pioneer Village.
